I think we argued over much of this yesterday, but he does raise some interesting points. The main problem I see with his logic is that unbridled free enterprise leads to the destruction of the middle class, which we are already seeing here. In a democracy, this leaves the poor in control of everything that happens, because there are 10 times more poor than rich, with no middle class to buffer the consequences. This is turn leaves the rich and successful no choice but to usurp more power, in order to curtail freedoms and democracy in an effort to protect their riches and successes. Putting it another way, government and the wealthy start working together to protect their own personal interests, which is, of course, what is going on right now. Short of a natural disaster, there is really no way to stop this short of a revolution, where you might get a chance to start over. The supposition or weakness in this argument is that the haves, be they government figures or private individuals, will not give up any of their power or wealth to protect and ensure a viable middle class – ie: man is basically base or evil, not good. This may not be true, and could change, but I am not of the opinion that it will.

Re: Mobily

It's hard to keep up with a blog... and to write about interesting stuff when nothing interesting happens. Start paging through history and you will see the statists more often than not justify their coercion by the means of "helping" the poor, the downtrodden, and the stupid. Never mind that the masses always get the short end of the stick on this deal. Unfortunately these are the very people that tend not to read their history.

But here it is. So as you probably know I'm pretty liberal as far as liberal goes so it's a little hard to take what I have to say outside of that context but I would like to suggest that it's not really a political issue whether or not someone be allowed to live in Terri's state. It's my opinion that it is the matter of her family only. I consider it to be terribly unfortunate that there's such a divide in her family and I think a lot of immaturity exists (sorry I realize that's a crass word given the magnitude of the situation but there it is) I would however say that for myself if I were in her situation I have to imagine that I would want the feeding tube removed from me. I can also say that the person that knows me the best in this world is Marcus, my husband. We can all judge Terri's husband and say that his motives are poor, that he just wants to remarry and move on but lets not kid ourselves. It's not like she went into a vegetative state and the next month he was trying to off her. This has been going on for over a decade with no hope (as far as I know) at any time of her recovering. He has been by her side, fought in court for money he needed to care for her and has loved her this whole time. If this were me and Marcus had to make the choice I would certainly hope that at some point, maybe not even as long as Terri's husband has waited, he would make the tough choice. I also hope that after this long he would move on with a new woman in his life. As hard as it is for me to think about him with someone else it's worse for me to think of him spending all of his time, energy and love focused on something that will never be. I also believe that if there is any medical settlement money left over after all this time that he should be the one to keep it. While I think the best use of this money would be to donate it to Terri's favorite charity or something I think he is a logical second choice, after all I'm sure she knowingly chose his as the benefactor of any death benefits she had while she was present to this world. OK almost enough but I also had to say something about the following comment in the article... "We have forgotten how to be appropriately outraged. We can see people frothing at the mouth both for and against a promiscuous President, we can see people furious that others eat meat or wear fur or drill for oil in frozen wastelands but starve a lone and helpless woman in the hospital, and ... where is the rage at such a wrong?" I think it's pretty clear that I am that person outraged over the first set of circumstances here and I think it's ridiculous to trivialize the devestation of one of God's creations at the suggestion of another. I would say that by nature I am a pretty extreme pacifist, hence the vegetarianism, strong belief against the death penalty (not because one innocent person might be killed but because I think it's wrong to kill - yes I realize this sounds conflicting but I refer back to her decade plus vegetative state and no promise of recovery combined with her husband's thoughts that she would want this) and yes pro life (shocking since I am so liberal I know) beliefs. I guess I just don't understand why our political body isn't more concerned with things such as oh I don't know, educating our children, or God forbid protecting the environment then they are with one woman's plight for life/death. I think this woman would have been far better off not being in the limelight.

That being said I would also like to add that I'm training to be a cage fighter so if anyone needs to use any of my skills at any time feel free to let me know.

Re: 71

FYI - this was sort of a boring blog... i am expecting some excitement here. At least it will make your blogs more interesting... I mean you can only go with the platonic-guy-friend story once then eveyrone is bored... and yes you supply much humor to many. So go out with the damn girl and try to put the moves on... At least your blog will be interesting.. I am riveted by one persons life story its like I'm watching tv series except I can comment my own thoughts... Sometimes in comedy unless you're nate stromberg stuff just doesn't happen to you thats when you create comedy... by doing something risky - in strombergs case its mostly walking and eating that is risky. I really doubt anyone will contradict me here... So do something risky I mean if not for the blog then whats the point of living is what I always say, or someone I knew said that - actually I just made that up and here is a quote from a song to inspire you -

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way.Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight.
fence you are now on. I have to say that I disagree with the posted article.
Many of the conservative sites/opinions out there have a lot of medical misinformation
or misunderstanding of basic brainstem reflexes. Whether you believe that removing
medical care, like a feeding tube or a respirator, is ethical or not, I completely
disagree with the government interference in one family's tragic situation.
Writing laws for one particular person's situation is a bad idea. I thought
conservatives were supportive of state's rights and wanted a less intrusive
federal government.

Re: I promised a story

seriously - you do need to stop this platonic-guy-friend routine!
